  Our Specialty Chemicals Business Unit delivers innovative coatings solutions to customers in the key markets of aerospace, yacht, consumer electronics and automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
We are the only aerospace supplier with Basecoat/Clearcoat approved at both Boeing and Airbus, and we also have a global presence in automotive. - Responsible to work independently and proficiently performing concurrent analyses on multiple projects involving aspects of paint color matching or paint formulations meeting existing standards of quality, accuracy, and reproducibility while working closely with the management team. Assist with design and development of new methods
- Responsibility includes all project details as well as independently interfacing with internal and external customers to achieve the project objectives.  Provides technical support as requested to ensure successful completion of project objectives.
- Takes initiative in gathering background information from the formulation and field staff. Proactively increases understanding of polymer synthesis and coatings formulation, manufacture and application methods to enhance the quality of analyses and shares this knowledge.
- Supply of customer trial samples, and creation of color standard panels meeting customer expectations.
- Assist with training of personnel with new functions.
- Participates in discussions with raw materials suppliers plus internal polymer, formulating and manufacturing and field service staff to maximize the use of proprietary technology to gain competitive advantage. This includes taking part in formal and informal meetings in-house and with customers.
- Maintains and calibrates instrumentation, performs minor repairs, coordinates service of equipment by outside service engineers. Maintains stock of chemicals and supplies.
- Maintains detailed and organized data in the appropriate method ie. notebook, electronic,etc.   Provides reports, project summaries for review by the management team for internal and external customers.
- Promotes the current quality system through adhering to the elements and ensuring that all group members are thoroughly familiar with and adhere to the philosophy, quality statement, quality manual, and are competent in the appropriate procedures.  This position also has the responsibility and authority to prevent the occurrence of product nonconformity.
- Promotes a positive example in daily activities, as well as mentoring group members and participating positively in cross functional planning/ problem solving activities.
- Proactively supports all activities to ensure that a safe environment and professional laboratory appearance is maintained.  Manages safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Performs additional duties as required.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

Requirements for Job (education or experience required to be able to perform this job):
- Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or related field from 4 year college or university and entry level to five years’ experience in coatings or polymer analyses is required; or
- 5+ years hands on experience in color development/domain, 5 years in-depth knowledge OEM color process required.
- The position must be proficient in color matching. Color vision: (>70 typical Good) is a must.
- Knowledge of colorimetry, paint products and statistical methods
- Risk assessment: root cause analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Application Equipment knowledge ie. Bell, estat, program as a user
- Color software – BYK MAC Smartchart, spectrophotometer, X-rite, Colorcare, FDtool as a user
- Detail Oriented 
- Must be able to lift up to 65 pounds and stand for long periods of time.  Also requires extensive stooping and bending.
- Candidate must be able to work in a manufacturing & laboratory environment and be capable of wearing an air purifying respirator.  To wear a respirator per OSHA regulations, candidate must pass medical evaluation and fit testing to qualify as a respirator user.
