Our Protective Coatings Business Unit offers an extensive range of high-performance coatings for corrosion and fire protection for assets across a range of industries, both offshore and onshore. We are strong in up-stream offshore and power, and are an overall market leader with International® brand. We have good relationships within the oil and gas industry, and also service fire protection and engineering, while leading in technical service.
 
BASIC PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
Provides customers technical services in coordination with marketing activities; assists customers in the application of company products related to passive fire protection (PFP) products.  Provide technical service support as required in the field.  Primary function is to support company PFP sales team and customers through contractor training in conjunction with the Chartek Qualified Applicator Program; project quality audits; and ongoing contractor training with regard to the safe and proper application of our products in accordance with specifications.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
- Conduct contractor training in conjunction with the Chartek Qualified Applicator Program and provide the required documentation to the Chartek Technical Service Manager.
- Perform project audits as directed by manager to include surface preparation, suitable application equipment, all steps in the application process and overall quality of PFP products and systems.  This includes proper documentation on standard audit/report forms submitted as per established departmental procedures.
- Assists customers/applicators in the proper application of PFP products and systems in accordance with company specifications; providing detailed documentation of observations on standard forms submitted as per established departmental procedures.
- When conditions are not within company specifications advises customer/applicator and immediate supervisor and documents on standard forms (e.g. Letter of Exception), submitting as per established departmental procedures.
- Lifts 100 pounds
- Assist sales team by providing technical expertise for product demonstrations and joint sales calls

Job requirements/Candidate profile

KNOWLEDGE OR KNOW-HOW REQUIRED:   
- High school graduate
- 5 years basic technical experience related to paints and coatings
- 2 years field experience in the application of epoxy based PFP
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to travel
- Knows coating application, techniques and parameters. Ability to apply principles of observation, logical, or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.  Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- After completing an initial medical review and a drug and alcohol screen, employees performing TSR tasks are subject to periodic medical exams to determine their fitness to work as a TSR.  Many customers also require TSRs to be tested for drugs on a random basis if TSRs visit or perform work on their sites.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- College degree preferred.
- Experience in coatings and linings.
- Read:  Ability to read newspapers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, encyclopedias, safety rules.
- Write:  Ability to prepare business letters, expositions, summaries, and reports, using prescribed format.  Must be able to prepare technical reports and maintain proper diaries as well as be able to document time and motion.
- Speak:  Ability to participate in group discussions and debates; to speak extemporaneously on a variety of subjects.  Ability to speak coherently, accurately, and precisely.
- Hear: Ability to detect safety alarms and increase awareness in high risk areas.
- Computer literate
- May have to work around water therefore must have the ability to swim
