AkzoNobel Inc.–has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Payroll Specialist. The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible to pay US employees accurately and timely and provide stellar customer service to our employees at all levels.

Specific Tasks:
- Administration of the payroll system and database to ensure payroll is accurate and on time; troubleshooting problems or issues arising in daily processing or supporting implementation and testing of changes resulting from new legislation or system upgrade
- Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, accurately administer assigned processes and specialized payroll responsibilities; organize workflow
- Maintains time and attendance database for the pay groups processed
- Reviews payroll data entry requests for accuracy and adequate approvals, process, interpret, and maintain proper documentation in adherence with established policies and guidelines and aligned with internal controls and audit requirements
- Ability to calculate gross to net or net to gross type payments and perform other complex calculations and analysis
- Prepare manual off-cycle requests and ensure proper approval is received. Prepare accounts payable requests when needed
- Complete periodic reports/payments employer-related state tax and insurance funds
- Support reporting for audits and requests from our internal customers
- Interact with various internal departments, as well as vendors and tax agencies
- Handles routine changes by processing paperwork, and inputting data into the system
- Answer incoming calls to the HR Shared Service Center, trouble-shoot, research and resolve issues related to payroll services
- Resolve (and document) simple to moderately complex issues submitted by employee via email, mail, and fax in a timely manner, and escalates more complex issues as appropriate
- Maintain and monitor case management tickets according to SLA’s
- Responsible for all payroll tax activities, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Work closely with 3rd party vendor tax filing service to assure all tax notices addressed and tracked in a timely manner
- Oversee the calculation and reporting of tax liabilities, responding to questions and special requests from employees and regulatory agencies, researching laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience; minimum 5 years’ experience with payroll processing in a multi-state/ multi-frequency environment and 2 years of payroll tax experience

- Knowledge and understanding of: payroll tax regulations; common pay practices; recordkeeping and reporting

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, proficient in Excel

- Detail-oriented, well-organized; high degree of accuracy; very dependable

- Customer Focus Skills: Proposes ideas and alternatives to resolve issues, responds in a positive manner to questions; employs courtesy and tact in all customer exchanges

- Able to work effectively both in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision

- Experience with SAP and PeopleSoft is desired

- Experience with 3rd Party Tax Filing Services. ADP and Empower experience a plus

- CPP certification a plus
