Our Wood Coatings Business Unit is the leading supplier of wood coatings for furniture, flooring, cabinetry and building products, and a key supplier of wood adhesives and board resins for construction materials and engineered products. We work closely with our customers around wood solutions, and color and styling expertise, and due to our extensive wood knowledge and application know-how, we enjoy a particularly strong position in North America.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Must follow all established safety rules and procedures
- Must demonstrate integrity while performing duties as per company’s Code of Conduct
- Develop and present employee safety training to meet general and specific needs
- Conduct new employee orientation – generalized training to provide a basic understanding of all company-wide safety programs and required OSHA training
- Write safety policies and procedures
- Prepare materials for and conduct required training for all employees.  Maintain training records of all training classes for required length of time
- Develop list of required HSE training for each job based on the duties of each compared to the regulatory requirements.  Schedule and deliver all required HSE training and coordinate with other departments heads to ensure all personnel receive required HSE training.
- Lead accident investigations collect and analyze injury data to determine root cause. Report findings to General Manager and corporate.
- Maintain the OSHA 300 log
- Lead safety committee meetings
- Conduct risk assessment meetings
- Emergency Coordinator for the site
- Handle media communications
- Aggressively manage Worker’s Compensation cases to return employees to full duty as soon as possible and minimize impact on reporting cirteria
- Conduct periodic walk through inspection of site.
- Liability and loss control
- Health exposures
- Evaluation of new processes and management of change
- Interpret OSHA, NFPA, DOT, DHS and other standards as applicable
- Represent the site in its relationship with safety regulatory agencies
- Ensure site is in compliance with all safety requirements
- Evaluate and approve safety equipment for use on site
- Contractor evaluation and training
- Prepare and submit required reports and maintain appropriate documentation
- Review and update programs as required
- Provide support for the Behavior Based Safety Program
- Manage Special Site Projects as needed
- Assist in developing safety training for off –site sales force
- Represent the site in its relationship with DOT regulatory agencies.
- Conduct DOT training
- Work with customers as requested on safety and environmental matters.
- Review all new raw material forms
- Support off-site remote labs
- Investigate all site fires and prepare and submit required reports.
- Represent the site in its relationship with the local fire department
- Ensure all required inspections are performed on all site fire protection equipment and maintain associated documentation.
- Manage Site Security Program
- Prepare haz waste manifest and manage records for waste
- Maintain all required RCRA documentation
- Oversee management of hazardous waste
- Conduct initial and periodic TSD facility inspections
- Represent the site in its relationship with environmental regulatory agencies.
- Maintain and renew Roanoke’s air permit and associated documentation.
- Maintain and renew Roanoke’s storm water permit and associated documentation
- Maintain and renew site’s waste water permit and associated documentation
- Act as a contact for notification of off-site spill by Chem-trec
- Leads site compliance with internal HSE directives and initiatives
- Prepares and submits HSE articles for site newsletter
- Site contact for AkzoNobel Risk Management (ARM) audit and maintain and update report and recommendations
- Other business related duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s of Science in one of the following fields: Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Occupation/Industrial Hygiene
- 5-10 years experience in related field.
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow safety instructions and safety guidelines
- Ability to write correspondence in English professionally and effectively to all levels of management, peer group and employees
- Ability to present information in English in one-on-one and group situations to peers, management and vendors
- Ability to interact and communicate in English with all levels of the organization effectively and precisely
- Must have effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to identify and analyze potentially complex compliance risks promptly
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to multi-task and balance priorities
- Dedicated and committed safety leadership and presence
- Analytical reasoning and problem solving skills
- Coaching/teaching and decision making skills
- Strong computer skills for data tabulation, analysis and report preparation (Excel, Word, Power Point)
