About AkzoNobel

AkzoNobel is a leading global paints and coatings company and a major producer of specialty chemicals, with leading market positions and brands in countries around the world. We operate in a number of important market segments ranging from buildings and infrastructure to transport, industrial and consumer goods. We’re also the sector leader in sustainability and are number one in the renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Index. In practical terms, that means our sustainable solutions are in your lives, and those of your friends and family, every day. We’re the people that make it possible for you to do what you need to do.

Bring financial expertise along with powerful business development skills to a high profile role within a leading global organization

AkzoNobel’s business area Decorative Paints (DP) adds color to people’s lives with a full range of interior and exterior decoration and protection products for the trade and consumer markets. As authorities on color we aim to provide all our customers – from professional decorators to DIY enthusiasts – with a great color experience and a fantastic finish. Our range includes paints, lacquers and varnishes, as well as products for surface preparation (pre-deco products).

Within this context, your mission in this role is to assume financial end responsibility for the Trade channel. In doing so you operate as a real business partner to the Sales Director Trade of the Netherlands and the Trade Management team as you help them to build famous brands such as Sikkens and Trimetal. This requires the desire and commitment necessary to immerse yourself in the optimization of our business model across our stores, franchises and distributors.

Is this a challenge that matches your profile as a hand-on, pragmatic, credible and confident professional, able to thrive within a culture of change and improvement? Are you comfortable with detail yet able to take a holistic approach to Control? Do you have project and change management experience, and a willingness to challenge the status quo? Above all, can you make a real difference within our dynamic, multinational and multicultural business environment?

If you offer all this and more we invite you to apply for the role of

Business Controller Trade

The role and its responsibilities
This exciting and high profile role is based at our large Sassenheim site in the Netherlands, from where you are responsible for the controlling activities of the Trade channel which includes a network of own stores within DP Netherlands (not including accounting or IFRS reporting).

Thus you maintain and embody a culture of internal control and compliance where an adequate control framework is seen as an asset that will help to achieve business goals. In doing so you drive performance through the roll-out, set-up and fine-tuning of new decision support mechanisms and margin management. You also perform analysis to create essential insights, and support strategic and operational planning in line with the DP strategy.

As this is very much a business development role, you personally lead change initiatives and generate insights and discussion via a combination of facts, judgment and personal impact. You also play a major role in contract negotiations with key customers, as well as new product launches, new channel developments, M&A evaluations, improving own stores performance, etc. In doing so you lead the optimization of a cost- and cash-driven entrepreneurial culture.

All of this demands the curiosity to really understand the business drivers as you influence and lead the Management team to drive for operational excellence in financial KPIs that matter.
