Our Wood Coatings Business Unit is the leading supplier of wood coatings for furniture, flooring, cabinetry and building products, and a key supplier of wood adhesives and board resins for construction materials and engineered products. We work closely with our customers around wood solutions, and color and styling expertise, and due to our extensive wood knowledge and application know-how, we enjoy a particularly strong position in North America.

Purpose/Key Objective
Establish and maintain basis for quality control, quality standards, inspection and test methods and procedures for the organization.  Determine and recommend necessary inspection and test equipment required for incoming, in process, and final product inspections. Establish standards for sampling and vendor testing and inspection. Establish and oversee various inspection and test procedures. Establish and coordinate the assembly of records necessary for quality control tracking, including charts, statistical analysis and reports. Plan work in conjunction with subordinates, assist in determining causes for faulty work, quality failures, and scrap or rejects. Work with department supervisors/managers to resolve quality problems. Supervises quality control technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty safely, satisfactorily, and in a timely manner.
- Must follow all established safety rules and procedures
- Must demonstrate integrity while performing duties as per company’s Code of Conduct
- Assigns and directs workflow of quality control technicians via the QC team lead
- Study, direct, install, and maintain quality control methods and procedures for inspection of in-process and manufactured goods.  Able to write, review, edit Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory methods
- Evaluate, improve, and maintain laboratory training program
- Evaluate and improve the repeatability of test methods
- Evaluate, improve, and maintain the cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment
- Measure and report results of efforts to achieve an effective defect prevention program
- Process control complaints and institute action to correct and prevent recurrence
- Has the authority to make adjustments greater than 10% to production batches
- Perform area housekeeping responsibilities

Essential Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential qualification satisfactorily.
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow safety instructions and safety guidelines
- Must be able to score a 46 or lower on a Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Color test
- Must have effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to multi-task and balance priorities
- Dedicated and committed safety leadership and presence
- Ability to work in a heavy manufacturing environment with exposure to chemical agents
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field.  One year coatings experience preferred. Root Cause analysis training such as six sigma green belt preferred.  Supervisory experience and strong leadership skills required.  Pass pre-employment physical, background check and drug screen.
