Develops and proposes plans for Maintenance and Engineering functions of the Houston site which are in line with the SBU strategy. Develops operational action plans and implements controls which assure targets are met and business opportunities are identified, assessed and implemented within the framework of the global strategy of the business. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Supports the Business Units 'Shared Values' of Working Together, Being Responsible and Improving All the Time through effective management of Engineering and Maintenance.
• Communicates and promotes the approved BU-strategy and develops plans and budgets for plant maintenance and engineering activities, which are integrated into Three-year Operating Plan. Recommends and upon approval implements policy regarding Maintenance and Engineering.
• Communicates and interacts with other site functions (production, logistics, production planning and scheduling, finance, purchasing, IT, HR, technical services, safety, environmental, customer service and research/development) to ensure efficient and timely operation of manufacturing operations. Identifies and analyzes changing business conditions for improvement opportunities and implements changes to attain them.
• Ensures effective maintenance and repair of plant assets while meeting requirements for quality, cost control, safety and environment. Assures that the maintenance and engineering groups carry out their responsibilities in a manner consistent with being a valued and respected member of the community at large.
• Creates optimal conditions for the functions and personnel directed. Designs and implements a clear organizational, reporting and communication structures that makes optimal use of available Human Resources.
• Represents the Surface Chemistry BU both inside and outside Company. Builds and maintains a network of business contacts in support of organizational objective. Conducts business in a responsible and ethical manner.
• Takes full advantage of the physical, financial and human resources of Company. Stimulates HR development through teamwork, continuous improvement and fiscal responsibility.
• Ensures an environment of continuous improvement and leads MTQ process in Maintenance and Engineering.


• Understands and helps implement the SBU HSES / Responsible Care Policy and related objectives.

• Aware of potential environmental, health, safety and security impacts in area of responsibility and the consequences if an upset occurs.

• Understands and implements any parts of the Houston Environmental Compliance Plans, Waste Management Plans and Emergency Response Plan that applies to area of responsibility.

• Participates in the site's on-going Pollution Prevention Process.

• Participates in the site’s HSE&S processes and training activities.

• Is knowledgeable and complies with all state, federal, and local regulations and complies with AkzoNobel standards and directives.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
• At least ten (10) years’ experience in the Maintenance field with at least ten (10) years direct experience in maintenance or process management in a chemical processing plant operations
• Possess strong knowledge of chemical process equipment
• Supervisory experience required with demonstrated ability to manage, lead and motivate people; Ability to effectively delegate responsibility and manage the work activities of others
• Experience with Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing: Black Belt certification a plus
• Experience with developing site maintenance concepts and with standard maintenance work processes
