About AkzoNobel

Industries worldwide rely on our essential chemistry in the manufacture of everyday products such as paper, plastics, building materials, and personal care items. Building on the dedication of our employees and our shared commitment to safety, sustainability, and open innovation, we have established a world-class business and built strong partnerships with our customers. We operate in over 80 countries around the world and our portfolio of industry leading brands includes Eka, Dissolvine, Trigonox, and Berol.

A great opportunity for an ambitious professional to take part in the ongoing success of a major chemicals business.

AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals (SC) provides a wide range of high quality and sustainable ingredients that are integral to numerous key industrial processes worldwide. Thus we serve high profile customers in sectors including paints, detergents, foods, plastics, cosmetics, construction, pulp and paper, pharmaceuticals, electronics, agro and oilfield applications.

Within SC, the Industrial Chemicals (IC) business unit produces and markets salt (industrial and foodgrade), DME, chloralkali products and derivatives such as monochloroacetic acid (MCA). IC operates eight production locations and is powered by an integrated supply chain (ISC) of energy raw materials (gas, power, carbon) that accounts for about 80% of its raw material costs.

By its very nature, IC is highly capital intensive with multiple high value annual capital expenditure projects, from maintenance stops, capacity expansions, asset replacements and upgrades of existing factories up to new asset development. It is particularly focused on increasing the efficiency and productivity of the energy ISC. To enable this, the ISC Finance organization operates a centralized team that is crucial in driving further standardization and continuous improvement of capital projects.

The role and its responsibilities
Within the above context, your mission as CAPEX Controller is to act as a critical team player within ISC Finance, overseeing all aspects of CAPEX processes and developments including financial reporting, project support and coordination. It’s a  role with very broad CAPEX responsibilities where you need to handle complexity but strive for simplicity while building cross-functional teams and consensus at all levels of our matrix organization.

Your core task is to act as a key business partner to the Asset Management organization, functioning as the central hub for investment planning to maintain a Long Term Asset Plan that supports strategic decision making and OCF stability. This involves a number of activities around reporting and analysis; coordinating the Management Control Cycle for the manufacturing units; implementing standardized and more transparent work processes to control efficiency and improve quality; managing projects and systems.

As such, this is a multi-facing opportunity to play an integral supporting role in the development of the central ISC control function, and to gain a valuable perspective on possible future positions. It calls for strong finance, project and procedural skills, along with an open-mind towards ideas and solutions in both the study and execution phase. It’s a high profile and influential role based at our global center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The role offers significant potential for growth towards a more senior Controlling role in the organization.

Is this a challenge that matches your profile as a proactive, flexible and results-focused team player and problem solver with strong analytical skills? Can you demonstrate a proven ability to identify and structure issues, run accurate (also statistical) analyses and synthesize recommendations? Have you acquired solid project and stakeholder management experience, along with the ability to build your own network? Above all, can you make a real difference within our dynamic, multinational and multicultural business environment?
If you offer all this and more, we invite you to apply for the position of
