Responsibility

Environmental:


Plan and implement programs and procedures to protect facility’s environmental responsibilities. Initiate programs to comply with environmental agency regulations and corporate policy including the storage and handling of hazardous waste materials. Coordinate the disposal of hazardous waste materials. Recommend actions to management to assure conformance with regulations. Assist in planning and installing equipment or making modifications. Represent organization in dealing with regulatory agencies involving environmental matters. Applies for all necessary operating permits and ensures compliance with permit terms and conditions. Maintains all required documentation. Completes and submits all required reports.


Safety:


Assure compliance with federal, provincial and local regulations.  Recommend policies and procedures in the development and administration of safety and health programs. Conduct safety meetings, inspections and training programs. Investigate adequacy of equipment, exhaust system, lighting and conditions that may affect employee safety and health. Prepare all required reports and other documentation and recommends corrective actions. Coordinate emergency planning and response activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Must follow all established safety rules and procedures
  • Represent the site in its relationship with safety regulatory agencies
  • Conduct new employee orientation – generalized training to provide a basic understanding of all company-wide safety programs and required training
  • Write safety policies and procedures
  • Prepare materials for and conduct required training for all employees. Maintain training records of all training classes for required length of time
  • Develop list of required HSE training for each job based on the duties of each compared to the regulatory requirements. Schedule and deliver all required HSE training and coordinate with other departments heads to ensure all personnel receive required HSE training
  • Lead accident investigations collect and analyze injury data to determine root cause
  • Lead safety committee meetings
  • Conduct risk assessment meetings
  • Emergency Coordinator for the site
  • Aggressively manage Worker’s Compensation cases to return employees to full duty as soon as possible and minimize impact on reporting criteria
  • Conduct periodic walk through inspection of site
  • Evaluation of new processes and management of change
  • Represent the site in its relationship with safety regulatory agencies
  • Ensure site is in compliance with all safety requirements
  • Evaluate and approve safety equipment for use on site
  • Contractor evaluation and training
  • Prepare and submit required reports and maintain appropriate documentation
  • Provide support for the Behavior Based Safety Program
  • Manage Special Site Projects as needed
  • Assist in developing safety training for off –site sales force
  • Work with customers as requested on safety and environmental matters
  • Review all new raw material forms
  • Support off-site remote labs
  • Oversee management of hazardous waste.

Job requirements/Candidate profile


  • 3 year Post-secondary education
  • 3-5+ years of EHS experience in an industrial setting
  • Experience in the coating, chemical industry / paints
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a keen desire to learn and establish rapport with stakeholders. Ability to create a positive influence for change
  • Willingness to travel and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
  • Knowledge of EHS regulatory requirements in the bulk petroleum industry preferred
  • Experience conducting job hazard safety analysis
  • Experience in cooperatively conducting facility assessments and audits to reach desired outcomes
  • Experience conducting training for small and medium size groups
  • Ability to shift focus and maintain priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to write correspondence in English professionally and effectively to all levels of management, peer group and employees
  • Ability to present information in English in one-on-one and group situations to peers, management and vendors
  • Ability to interact and communicate in English with all levels of the organization effectively and precisely
  • Must have effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify and analyze potentially complex compliance risks promptly
  • Ability to multi-task and balance priorities

  • Ability to work in a heavy manufacturing environment with exposure to chemical agents.
