As a member of the SMU Management Team contributes to the execution of the strategy and achievement of the business goals and objectives. Is responsible for the creation of relevant marketing strategies and plans to achieve growth targets laid out in the mandates. As a member of the BA Marketing Forum actively supports the complete range of the commercial excellence program in the BA and specifically in the SMU.

  • Acts as most senior Marketing leader in the SMU and drives exposure and focus of the Marketing organization.
  • Develops and implements the marketing strategy and creates internal alignment and acceptance of the marketing strategy.
  • Leads the marketing organization to develop and implement marketing & customer communication plans.
  • As a member of the BA Marketing Forum acts as a member of the steering committee for the BA commercial excellence program and specifically takes ownership for its implementation in the SMU.
  • As part of the commercial excellence program, supports capabilities in the following areas: marketing planning, product management, services management, color management, marketing communications and margin management, based on the guidelines set in the regional and segment plans.
  • Develops and implements regional and market segment plans to ensure optimal value generation and growth in the relevant segments together with the Regional marketing managers and the sales teams.
  • Coordinates the product development planning and chairs the product review cycle within the SMU Integrated Business Planning process.
  • Ensures the availability of relevant market intelligence and knowledge of the needs in the targeted market and customer segments of the SMU. Proactively monitors the services and product propositions offered by competitors.
  • Stays in close and frequent contact with sales management to ensure customer segmentation is agreed and market requirements are met and initiates gap closing activities where gaps exists (feedback cycle).
  • Represents AkzoNobel on relevant Industry groups for the markets covered by the SMU.
  • Plans and administers the marketing budgets and supports the creation of regional marketing budgets.
  • As a member of the SMU Management Team responsible for and actively involved in development of business objectives and leads key development projects. Provides expert knowledge of market support concepts and tools during the design phase.
  • Familiar with all the applicable corporate as well as site policies/procedures with regard to personal conduct and HSE standards and acting in compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Works closely with SMU Management Team to ensure that the matrix structure operates efficiently.
  • Acts as an ambassador and encouraging talent processes and engagement.
  • Ensures job profiles are in place, sets objectives for team members, reviews development and provides clear, open and constructive feedback on performance combined with the appropriate actions.
  • Strengthens the talent pipeline by developing talent and regularly assesses and discusses talent and internal movement.
  • Continuously monitors and evaluates retention risk.
  • Stimulates, manages and follows through on employee engagement and builds on the workforce to reflect the societies and markets in which we do business (D&I).
  • Creates an open environment in the team where all people can perform at their best and stimulates the development of others and ensures an engaged marketing team.
  • Ensures reporting line is fully informed and acts in line with HSE and Compliance regulations.
  • Takes ownership by representing SMU Management Team towards own team and vice versa.
  • Manages and plans relevant (departmental) budget and proactively manages the costs.
  • Reports on progress on a continuous base.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

  • Minimally a recognized Bachelors’ degree in Marketing or its’ equivalent and/or Post Graduate qualifications
  • At least 10 years experience in a Marketing Leadership role
  • Has been in a Senior Management role in a highly matrix organisation
  • Has led teams in regional or global Marketing or both
  • Strong marketing acumen, align with marketing, digital and Go-To-Market trends
    Proven track record of leading marketing strategies, returns in marketing investments
  • Managed P&L of functional department/s.
