Wood Coatings - increasing durability and adding anti-blocking properties

Colloidal silica can improve the function and performance of numerous waterborne wood coatings (e.g., clear lacquer). When added to wood coatings, colloidal silica creates a silica skeleton that improves mechanical properties. Wood coatings not only become harder and more durable, their anti-blocking and wetting abilities are also enhanced.

Waterborne wood coatings can measurably benefit from colloidal silica. And users will appreciate wood coatings that are easier to apply, adhere better, and last longer. Similar to its use in decorative coatings, colloidal silica can improve the open time, penetration, and wetting of wood coatings, for better appearance and application. In fact, colloidal silica gives waterborne wood coatings that desirable "solventborne” look, so-called anfeurung.

At the same time, the glass - like nature of colloidal silica particles enhances the anti-blocking properties of waterborne wood coatings, making sanding between coating applications easier.

Finally, through surface enrichment of silica particles and/or cross-linking with resin in the water coating, colloidal silica creates a harder, more durable, scratch-resistant coating, which users will definitely appreciate.
