All our products and solutions are designed to minimize waste production, reduce carbon footprint and create more value from fewer resources, delivering both economic and environmental sustainability across the entire value chain.
To determine the effectiveness of our solutions, we compare and evaluate them to other mainstream market solutions and across the entire value chain. Our ambition is to offer Eco-Premium Solutions (EPS), which provide the same or better functionality in customer application and/or end-of-life (i.e., a “downstream” benefit) in at least one of the following criteria:
- Improve energy efficiency (i.e., lower energy consumption)
- Use natural resources/raw materials instead of fossil fuels
- Reduce waste and/or toxicity emission
- Increase safety (i.e., fewer accidents during production and/or transportation)
- Optimize use of available land (i.e., smaller footprint)
- Improve health/well-being
Our research and development, bleaching services and support personnel collaborate closely to develop new solutions that both achieve our EPS goals and satisfy your sustainability. More about our environmental initatives can be found in the Annual report - Sustainability statements.
What: Less energy consumed during chlorate production
How: Focusing on technological advances
Benefit: Reduced carbon footprint and fewer perchlorates formed, reducing eco-toxicity at the user phase
What: Lower carbon-emission chlorate production (Alby and Stockvik, Sweden)
How: Energy sourced from hydro (50%) and nuclear (50%)
Benefit: Reduced carbon footprint

What: Integrated sodium chlorate and chlorine dioxide production
How: Powered from renewable biomass energy produced by our pulp manufacturing partners; lowers our carbon footprint while providing our customers with efficient chemicals
Benefit: Indirect low CO2 emission, natural resource/ raw material savings, and reduced transport of hazardous chemicals.
What: By-product (hydrogen) re-used versus lost
How: Hydrogen used in hydrogen peroxide production and heating water
Benefit: Natural resource/raw material savings and increased production energy efficiency
