Process Technology

Process Technology is the study and application of scientific principles related to chemical transformations and separations of products, and their translation from laboratory scale to commercial production-scale processes. At AkzoNobel we’ve established the Strategic Research Group (SRG) Process Technology (PT) within the Specialty Chemicals Business Area to undertake longer range, strategic and underpinning research for the Specialty Chemicals and the paints and coatings business areas and to develop new, truly differentiating technology platforms. The SRG Process Technology serves our organization worldwide.

The focus of the SRG Process Technology is on:

  • Research, development and scaling of viable process routes;
  • Research, development and optimization of a wide variety of unit operations, such as reaction, mixing, dispersion, separation, purification, and waste water treatment;
  • Maintenance and utilization of key enabling technologies such as fluid dynamics, chemistry, catalysis, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, particles technology, and colloidal systems;
  • Utilization and development of methods for modeling and controlling the process to support development.

Guided by the principles of sustainable development, the SRG Process Technology addresses numerous factors related to process technology including, production safety, the environmental impact of production processes, the security and handling of raw materials and intermediates, production capacity and capabilities, costs of production, the integration of unit operations, and the development and adoption of new technologies.
