We produce paint and coatings for various markets, like decorative, powder, vehicles, aerospace, yacht, etc., to protect and decorate the substrates.
Within the organization, the Microbiology Expertise Group (MBEG) performs research, tests and projects concerned with the microbiological protection of paints and related materials. MBEG covers areas including in-can preservation and dry-film preservation of our paints and plant hygiene in our production sites. Our main customers are colleagues in the Product Development Centers (PDC), the local technical people in the countries, and people from the paint production.
In the MBEG team, based in Sassenheim (NL), a position for a Researcher Microbiology has become available.
Together with the team/project leader you are going to translate general goals into plans, setting up broad experimental designs, and coordinating laboratory activities. This requires you to ensure that all laboratory or field/production environment testing is performed with regard to all technical, legal, HSE and Product Stewardship principles.
You are eager to do practical lab work and execute the experiments with high efficiency, accuracy and under minimum supervision. Afterwards you evaluate and report the results, primarily in English.
You provide the team/project leader with clear overviews about activities and timing to ensure optimum project planning. You also communicate clearly and effectively the key outcomes of the experiments with other parts of the AkzoNobel community.
You support and lead the specialists and act as a back-up for the team leader. It is important that you are able to work on longer-term “new” method development and/or technology development, as well as on short-term troubleshooting.
It is essential to stay up-to-date with developments in your field and endeavor to translate the methods used in other fields into the paint microbiology.
