Summary of Position
The Category Manager is responsible for leading the company’s sourcing activities for CAPEX/Technical Suppliers.  He/she will do so with the goal of achieving significant cost reductions, while maintaining/improving product quality and vendor service levels.  The Category Manager will collaborate with key business stakeholders and sourcing support specialist to deliver the 15% ROS objective by 2020, which is the most critical financial indicator linked to the mid-term success of the company.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

- Proactively drive cost and margin improvements (TCO), process improvements, and innovation
- Manage the supply base and stakeholder network on a global/regional level and work closely together with relevant stakeholders within Operations and Supply Chain
- Business, Global Business Services, and Procurement functions
- Actively drive cost down programs beyond Procurement savings to the stakeholders e.g. demand reduction, change of specifications, policy and behaviour changes
- Lead the sourcing activities for complex CAPEX projects  

Strategy
o   Manage strategy implementation and contract compliance
o   Establish and lead cross-functional teams for the development and execution of all aspects of category strategies within the region
o   Establish and present business cases supporting sourcing recommendations
o   Responsible for managing the competitive sourcing process related to contract pricing, terms and conditions
o   Conduct strategic sourcing activities to find and develop new suppliers in the Americas region to drive cost reduction, to evaluate production processes as well as analyze supply chain optimization potentials
Process
o   Analyse and drive Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for assigned category
o   Navigate and analyse complex data to identify and present opportunities
o   Actively seek and lead regional opportunities to drive savings and deliver business results for the organization through various forms of leveraging, bidding, sourcing and/or negotiation
o   Lead supplier selection process across multiple categories, internal teams, and regions, and create longer-term supplier selection strategies for management
o   Establishes and presents business cases supporting sourcing recommendations
o   Develop mechanisms and metrics to track supplier performance with delivery, quality, and cost
o   Develop, negotiate, and implement complex regional supplier contracts
o   Routinely develop deep market understanding and benchmarking
People
o   Manage and lead strategic supplier relationships and performance improvements through regular supplier meetings, business reviews and executive meetings
o   Form strong relationship and build trust with key stakeholders in AkzoNobel to understand critical needs and to establish and strengthen regional category strategies

Job requirements/Candidate profile


- Degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations, Engineering or equivalent work experience (Msc or MBA desirable)
- At least 7 years in an international purchasing or commercial role
- Fluent in English is mandatory, both written and spoken; any other language is a plus;
- Procurement accreditations (e.g. CPM/APICS) desirable
- Strong leader who can drive category strategies, develop pricing models, and has influence across all levels of an organization
- Good category expertise and sourcing/procurement experience and proven track record in Supplier and Contract Management
- Experience in Continuous Improvement (CI) and Lean Six Sigma is a plus
- Project management experience and change management experience
- Excellent communicator with different management layers in different functions (Finance, Procurement, IM) and in different parts of the company (BU, GBS and BPO)
- Understand the big picture & integration points; take personal accountability and ownership of tasks and deliver results
- Excellent analytical problem solving and influential skills
- Ability to build relationships across the organization and all geographic regions
- Quick learner; absorbs information and concepts quickly
- This position requires an individual with a strong background in Procurement Category Management, excellent people management and communication skills, as well the ability to deliver significant sustainable business results and drive cultural change
- Ability to travel regionally (~25%)
