Our Wood Coatings Business Unit is the leading supplier of wood coatings for furniture, flooring, cabinetry and building products, and a key supplier of wood adhesives and board resins for construction materials and engineered products. Regional Product Manager - Cabinet Coatings


Purpose:
Regional responsibility and ownership for the product segment ensuring setting and delivery of regional goals are in alignment with the global segment goals.Ensures that the product group matches customer needs and supports the development of new or replacement products and manages their launch into the market; manages the withdrawal of unwanted or obsolete products. Actively manages the allocated product group as a portfolio in line with agreed branding rules and hierarchies. Actively contributes to the revenue and profitability targets for the segment.
- Manages and strengthens the Regional Product Portfolio in close coordination with the Regional Marketing Manager and Business Unit Segment Manager assuring alignment with global product segment strategy and marketing plan
- Creates relevant value propositions for customer segments in accordance with the segment plans
- Coordinates new product development business case creation in coordination with Sales and R&D
- Acts as Project Manager for new product development projects, using the stage gate process
- Ensures effective planning, communication and progress of new product development and launches
- Assures the timely launch of new products into the market and follows approval processes
- Ensures that the product ranges are relevant for the customer needs and product information is maintained and up to date
- Monitors and optimizes regional product portfolio
- Adheres to established brand strategies to ensure optimal product positioning and value creation
- Creates convincing sales arguments for products including competitive comparisons
- Actively manages products as a portfolio according to Integrated Business Planning guidelines (such as new product introduction, product obsolescence, rationalization, etc.)
- Proactively identifies and acts on opportunities for (global) technology/range harmonization
- Drives distinctiveness for AkzoNobel products versus competitors in the minds of our customers ensuring this by matching the customer needs better than competitors
- Identifies new product customer needs through direct Voice of Customer interactions and Sales team feedback and creates specification for new products in liaison with R&D
- Participates in Integrated Business Planning process to inform progress on key projects
- Maintains and manages the specified product ranges by customer to ensure compliance to specification set by each manufacturer or market
- In collaboration with Marketing and Pricing Excellence team, runs cost to serve analysis to develop deeper understanding about the customers and related profitability
- Ensures that relevant product information is provided to the sales team and maintained up to date
- Works with the Regional Portfolio Coordinator to optimize the product range such as product introduction, product maintenance and improvement, market scope extension, repositioning, value engineering and rationalization
- Provide meaningful product portfolio briefings on regional level or input for briefings on global level for the Communication Department and technical training development team
- Coordinates and supports roll-out on market level with the relevant stakeholders (incl. pricing)
- Provides input for tradeshows / events as required
- Manage Regional Supply Issues Relabeling, inventory monitoring, stock outs, etc.
- Monitoring of Regional product complaints in the region activation of product recall notifications to the market
- Provides ideas for product positioning to broader product management community
- Benchmarking of competitors portfolio offerings compared to AkzoNobel portfolio
- Contributes to the creation of best practices in product management through the organization
- Participate in new literature and collateral development with communications manager
- Close dialogue with sales team to maintain feedback about product performance and market needs
- Gives insights and customer needs back to Business Unit to secure applicable innovation roadmap
- Maintains close contact with regional sales organizations to ensure market input is gathered
- Provides warranty guidance based on consultation with sales and R&D
- Provides pricing input to the pricing excellence contact when needed
- Participation in Integrated Business Planning meetings to update on project progress
- Be familiar with all applicable corporate and site policies/procedures with regard to personal conduct, HSE standards and always in compliance with all applicable regulations

Job requirements/Candidate profile

- Bachelor's degree, concentration in Marketing, Business, Economics, Finance Chemistry or Engineering
- 4+ years working experience in R&D or commercial environment
- Working in multi-disciplinary teams
- Prior experience in a technical or technical service role/function is highly desirable
- Proven product portfolio management, including financial analysis and reporting 
- Proficienct MS Office, specifically MS Excel
- Combination of technical and commercial understanding
- Essential to have good level of communication skills
- Good networker with good people skills
- Proactive, robust and pragmatic approach
