Plan, set up and execute experiments that lead to innovative new products for global markets
AkzoNobel is a global leader in the area of Decorative Paints and Coatings. This success is based on the highest levels of research and innovation. Central to this research capability is an Expertise Center Waterborne (ECW) that works on challenging research projects aiming at developing new and innovative waterborne concepts for the global Paints & Coatings market.
Within this context, your mission in this role to assume responsibility for the planning and execution of experiments and the reporting of results and conclusions. Working under the supervision of a Project- or Team Leader you make an essential contribution to new and environmentally responsible waterborne paint concepts while deepening our understanding of waterborne paints and coatings. The role and its responsibilities
This role and the ECW are based at our major site in Sassenheim, the Netherlands. Your core task is to p lan, execute and evaluate laboratory experiments in an organized and meticulous manner, in line with the departmental research plan. Thus you:
- Set up and perform experimental design for the dedicated development direction and the technological possibilities;
- Draw up the necessary hypotheses;
- Take a critical view and report deviations and unexpected results to the project team;
- Document lab results and report outcomes to the project leader and peers.
Needless to say, you spend significant time in the lab and you make yourself familiar with all relevant characterization techniques, e.g. mechanical and chemical techniques. It is imperative that you take the initiative and ask appropriate questions to clarify requirements, expectations and critical performance parameters.
At all times you work safely and observe good laboratory practice and safety standards.

Job requirements/Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess the following attributes:
- A vocational education;
- Ideally you have experience with waterborne paints/coatings formulation, testing methods and tools;
- Interested in working with non-standard problems and exploring new topics;
- Critical attitude to assessing the set-up and results of experimental work;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills including strong written and verbal English.
