020827 Site Scoops Safety Award

One of Akzo Nobel's chemical sites in the UK has received a Responsible Care safety award.

Akzo Nobel’s Plastics and Processing Additives business in the UK, which trades under the name of Akcros Chemicals, has received a safety award from the Chemical Industries Association (CIA).

The Responsible Care award recognizes the company’s site in Eccles near Manchester for attaining a mean lost time accident rate of 0.20 per 100,000 hours worked for 1999-2001.

The annual awards are presented by the CIA— the UK chemical industry's leading trade and employer organization—to sites that achieve the CIA’s target frequency rate of 0.25 per 100,000 hours worked, averaged over a three-year period.

An Akzo Nobel apprentice working in Gillingham in the UK also received an award from the CIA recently.

Sally Wisdom (21) was one of the 11 nominees for theannualsouthern Chemical Industry Young Person of the Year Award. She missed out on the main prize, but was presented with a certificate and a check for GBP 50 for giving the most refreshing presentation.
