Eka Chemicals, Akzo Nobel’s Pulp and PaperChemicals business, has been honored in the USA for being a good corporate citizen.
The company’s site in South Gate, California, was one of the recipients of the 2001 Certificate of Recognition presented by the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County.
The award recognizes the fact that the 370 selected companies were in consistent compliance with all the industrial wastewater discharge limits for 2001. They were also free from any notices of violation, they maintained their environmental equipment and they fulfilled their permit requirements.
“As far as we're concerned, these are our model citizens," said James Stahl, Chief Engineer and General Manager of the Sanitation Districts. “We appreciate their effort because it makes our job of running a huge wastewater collection and treatment system so much easier."
Added Paul Martyn, head of the Sanitation Districts’ Industrial Waste Section: “It's appropriate to recognize companies that have devoted time and money to achieve full compliance. You always hear about the bad guys, we thought it was time that you heard about the good guys."
Eka Chemicals, headquartered in Bohus, Sweden, employs approximately 3,000 people around the world.
