Famous Landmark Celebrates

Akzo Nobel’s Marine and Protective Coatings business has every reason to join in celebrations to mark the first anniversary of spectacular UK landmark the London Eye.

The GBP 35 million (USD 50 million) Millennium Wheel, the world’s highest observation wheel, began carrying passengers in its 32 capsules on February 1, 2000.

Since then, more than three million people have enjoyed stunning views of London—as well as a close-up of the 15,200 liters of paint which Akzo Nobel supplied to protect the structure.

Interzinc 52, Interzone 954, Interthane 900, Intercure 420 rapid recoat epoxy and Interthane 990 were among the specialist International products chosen to coat the 135 meter-high wheel during its construction.

It is scheduled to remain open to the public for at least another four years, during which time Akzo Nobel coatings guarantee that the attraction will be protected against the ravages of the English weather.
