Giant Coatings Task Completed

Akzo Nobel's Marine and Protective Coatings business supplied products for use on the world's largest cattle ship.

The world’s largest cattle ship has been coated with products supplied by Akzo Nobel.

The International brand’s Intershield® 300 coating has been used on the MV Rodolfo Mata, a 38,000m² livestock carrier which will transport cattle and sheep from a number of Australian ports to the Middle East and Gulf.

Capable of carrying 25,000 head of cattle in its 2,000 pens, the 14-deck vessel is fitted with a desalinization plant large enough to supply fresh water for full wash downs, producing more than 1,800 tons of fresh water per day.

It was converted from a container ship at the facilities of Pan United Shipyard in Singapore and eclipses the previous world’s largest livestock vessel—the Danny F II—which has a 16,000 capacity.

More than 60,000 liters of paint was used during the conversion process, which also included the application of Interbond® 808.
