New Hi-Tech HQ For Inks

The UK’s Akzo Nobel Inks operation recently moved to a new, purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility in Irlam near Manchester.

The GBP 4.5 million headquarters complex is home to 80 production, technical, sales and administration staff, who have been transferred from the former premises at Cadishead, less than a mile away.

The UK is the company’s second-largest market in Europe for specialist printing inks, with the tailor-made Irlam site being supported by color matching and distribution centers at Dublin in Ireland, Cumbernauld in Scotland and Salford and Ilkley in England.

Primary ink production was switched three years ago to the company’s specialist production sites in Sweden and Denmark, freeing Irlam to concentrate on being a major blending operation using semi-finished components.

The UK is notable for being the company’s largest market for sheetfed inks, while Akzo Nobel also leads the field in the UK in specialist inks for envelopes, wallpaper and self-adhesive labels.

“Now we can not only create the right impression for our customers, but also provide them with a level of service unmatched by our rivals,” said UK managing director, Allan Humphris.

In keeping with Akzo Nobel’s reputation as a responsible company, the new Irlam facility operates to the international ISO14001 environmental management standard and is also accredited with ISO9001 for quality and Det Norske Veritas certification for occupational health and safety.
