Safety Award For Chemicals

Akzo Nobel Chemicals Inc in the United States has won a major award for its safe handling of hazardous material.

The company was one of 31 organizations recently presented with Norfolk Southern Corporation’s Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Award.

The freight railroad firm hands out the honor annually to customers who ship more than 1,000 carloads of hazardous chemicals during a calendar year without causing a single release of product.

“Safety is the highest priority at Norfolk Southern,” explained chairman David R. Goode. “Our goal is the safe transportation of every shipment on our rail system. Partnerships with safety-minded customers, such as our chemical shippers, help make that goal achievable.”

Norfolk Southern operates approximately 21,800 miles of railroad in 22 states.
