The Maracanã Stadium

When one of the world’s most famous football stadiums was redeveloped ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, they turned to AkzoNobel’s coatings expertise.

Protecting an icon

AkzoNobel has supplied key products for many of the world’s most prestigious sporting arenas, but one of the most iconic structures to feature our coatings is the famous Maracanã Stadium in Brazil.

The company provided a complete coatings solution for the venue’s roof as part of a major redevelopment project ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, when it staged seven matches, including the final

It wasn’t the first time AkzoNobel had supplied coatings for World Cup venues. In 2010, more than 750,000 liters of International paint were used to help protect three new stadiums at the tournament in South Africa.

Broad portfolio

“As a global coatings supplier with a product portfolio broad enough to match the needs of almost any customer, we are positioned to satisfy demanding requirements and specifications,” said Jaap de Jong, who was in charge of AkzoNobel Brazil at the time of the 2014 World Cup.

Track record

AkzoNobel has a long track record of providing full paint and coatings solutions for major sporting venues around the world. These include the Bird’s Nest Stadium and Water Cube in Beijing, China; both of the main Premier League football stadiums in Manchester, UK; and the Yas Marina Circuit grand prix complex in Abu Dhabi.
