Local talents and artists showcased their creativity in mural art at selected Starbucks stores in Malaysia, celebrating the newly launched campaign “Show Your Flavor”, which focuses on self-expression through color this summer.
Artists created their masterpieces on Starbucks’ store walls using colorful paints provided by AkzoNobel. The murals were be painted on several selected stores in Klang Valley and Penang, and the plan is to add more stores with other themes in the future.
This is the first ever collaboration between Starbucks and Dulux, and there is a strong confidence that this project will create a platform for the local talents to showcase their creativity in mural arts and embrace the Malaysia’s culture and lifestyle. The selected Starbucks stores for this project could also be a great point of attractions for both tourist and the locals.
In Klang Valley region, the project was kicked off at Starbucks Jalan Ampang Drive-Thru, with 23 artists on-board in this project. Whereas in Penang, Starbucks Malaysia has worked with art lecturers and 5 students from Equator College, Academy of Art to create beautiful wall art using elements inspired by the colors of summer, Starbucks Frappuccino®, and Penang culture and lifestyle at the wall of Starbucks Tanjung Tokong Drive-Thru.
“This summer, the iconic Frappuccino blended beverages are inspired by our customers’ personalities: fun, creative and bold. We created beverages that match customers’ summer moods, handcrafted to match their summer personalities,” said Mr. Sydney Quays, CEO of Berjaya Food Berhad. “These artists get to show their personality by expressing their colors and creativity through mural art at Starbucks. We love seeing how creative they are at expressing their summer feelings.”
Artists who participated in this mural art project consist of different profile and backgrounds: students, fresh graduates, self-taught artists, lecturers, executives and more. “It’s such an honor for me to be part of this amazing project. I am a self-taught artist and this has given us an opportunity to expose my artwork to more people.” said Muhammad Hasif.
Adeline Shatsala, coming from banking and finance background has taken the opportunity to do what she is always passionate about. “I love drawing and I picked up doodling when I was young. As I am currently working in an industry that has nothing to do with art, I usually spent my free time doodling on my sketch book.” said Adeline Shatsala. “We are excited to join forces with Starbucks to allow talented artists to showcase their creativity with the colors of summer.
This initiative fits very well with AkzoNobel’s continuous effort in supporting local talent and our Human Cities Initiative, which is our commitment to improving, energizing and regenerating urban communities across the world,” said Mr. Indra Laban, General Manager of AkzoNobel Decorative Paints Malaysia. “We strongly believe in the power of paint to transform people’s lives by uplifting communities and making living spaces more fun, liveable and enjoyable. These walls have now become tools for inspiration and connection.”
