Akzo Nobel appoints Director of Internal Auditing

Press Release - As of December 1, Paul Grimmelikhuizen will be appointed Director of Akzo Nobel's Internal Auditing department. He will succeed Arie den Butter who will retire as of the same date.

Arnhem, the Netherlands, May 6, 2003 – Akzo Nobel has announced that as of December 1, 2003, Paul Grimmelikhuizen (51) will be appointed Director of its Internal Auditing department. He will succeed Arie den Butter (61) who, having reached the retirement age, will leave Akzo Nobel as of the same date.

Mr. Grimmelikhuizen has worked for more than 25 years in several positions at Akzo Nobel, in the Netherlands as well as France and Germany. For the last few years he has been employed as Financial Officer within Acordis. As of April 29, 2003, Mr. Grimmelikhuizen joined Akzo Nobel to enable a smooth transition of responsibilities. From July 1, 2003, he will be available full-time.

Mr. Den Butter has enjoyed a well-respected career of more than 38 years with Akzo Nobel. As well as being Director of Akzo Nobel’s Internal Auditing department, he is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Internal Auditors in the Netherlands. In addition, he has held various positions within Royal NIVRA since 1978, in particular serving on committees relating to ethical behavior and professional codes of conduct.
