Akzo Nobel’s Frits Hensel Awarded Royal Honor

Press Release - Akzo Nobel’s Senior Vice President Finance Frits Hensel, has been decorated with the prestigious Dutch royal distinction ‘Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau’ last Friday. He was officially presented with the honor by Jan de Ruiter, Mayor of the Dutch town of Zevenaar.

The Order of Orange-Nassau is bestowed on people who have made a contribution of outstanding value to the Dutch community for a considerable period of time.

Rob Frohn, CFO of Akzo Nobel, said: “This is a great honor for both Frits Hensel and Akzo Nobel. During his distinguished 35-year career he made significant contributions to our financial structure, more or less covering the entire period since the creation of Akzo in 1969. We are very grateful for his loyalty and dedication.”

Besides holding the post of Senior Vice President Finance, Frits Hensel also fulfills a significant role in the various Akzo Nobel pension funds.

Frits Hensel was not only professionally involved in his discipline. He made a notable contribution to developing an academic course in Treasury and Corporate Finance and was able to use his long experience to build a bridge between developing academic theory and the practical needs of the workplace. Academically, he was involved in postgraduate education at the universities of Tilburg and Amsterdam (Free University) in the Netherlands. He is also a member of the Supervisory Board and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Royal Dutch Tourist and Automobile Association (ANWB), and has served on the Board of the Royal Dutch Motorboat Association (KNMC) for several years.

Having reached retirement age, Frits Hensel will leave Akzo Nobel as per May 1, 2005.
