Akzo Nobel’s Jan Eijsbouts Awarded Royal Distinction

PRESS RELEASE: Akzo Nobel’s recently retired General Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs, Jan Eijsbouts, has been awarded the prestigious Dutch royal distinction of Officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau.

Arnhem, the Netherlands, June 6, 2007 — Akzo Nobel’s recently retired General Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs, Jan Eijsbouts, has been awarded the prestigious Dutch royal distinction of Officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau.

Mr. Eijsbouts, who retired on June 1 following a distinguished 18-year career with the company, was officially presented with the honor by the Mayor of the Dutch town of Zeist, Mr. Jansen.

Order of Oranje-Nassau is bestowed on people who have made a contribution of outstanding value to the Dutch community over a considerable period of time. Mr. Eijsbouts was recognized for the significant role he has played in redefining the function of a General Counsel and developing mediation as an alternative form of settling disputes.

. Eijsbouts joined Akzo Nobel in 1989 as Senior Legal Counsel for the Chemicals Group. In 1994, Mr. Eijsbouts moved to the corporate organization as Senior Corporate Counsel before taking over as General Counsel in 1999. He will continue to serve the company in an advisory capacity.
