AkzoNobel makes elite list in reputation ranking

AkzoNobel has one of the best reputations in the Netherlands according to an annual ranking of the world’s largest companies.

Conducted by the Reputation Institute, the RepTrak™ Pulse 2010 study reveals that AkzoNobel has risen from 12th to seventh in the Dutch listing, reaching the top ten for the first time.

The 30 largest companies in the Netherlands (based on total revenue) were measured, with more than 15,000 respondents taking part in the survey. AkzoNobel scored the best improvement among the companies in the top ten.

“As the world’s largest coatings company, reputation is something we pay careful attention to,” said AkzoNobel CEO Hans Wijers. “Because our reputation matters. It affects our products, reflects on our employees and, of course, can influence our share price.

“So we put a lot of effort into the quality of our communications. We apply world class standards to everything we do, and that includes talking to the outside world. We realize that engaging audiences in conversations about what we do is crucial to how we are perceived. Thankfully, we seem to be doing a good job. But we know we can do even better.”

Wijers added that achieving such a strong reputation ranking was particularly pleasing given the period of transformation the company has gone through in recent years.

RepTrak is the proprietary tool used by the Reputation Institute to measure reputation across stakeholders, countries and industries. The model tracks 23 key performance indicators grouped around seven key dimensions: Products & Services, Innovation, Workplace, Governance, Citizenship, Leadership and Performance.
