A record number of bodyshops in the USA and Canada have taken part in an annual vehicle giveaway staged by Akzo Nobel’s Car Refinishes North America (CRNA) business. year during December, the company’s award-winning Acoat selected National Benevolence Program hands over renovated cars to the less fortunate, with 72 collision centers having signed up for 2005. “The number of collision shops participating in the program is continuing to rise,” said Mike Sillay, CRNA’s Services Manager. “The inspirational stories from participating bodyshops and the number of people impacted by this philanthropic program encourages others to make a difference in the lives of people in their own community.” in 1999, the scheme involves collision repair companies fully refurbishing vehicles that would otherwise have been written off or discarded. Employees donate labor, with suppliers donating parts and Akzo Nobel providing the paint. The repaired cars are then presented to families in need or non-profit organizations. many cases, the recipient is either a young, single parent struggling to improve the quality of life for their family, or a more established family experiencing tough times. keeping with the season, they often receive a number of extra gifts, such as insurance, oil changes, car washes, toys, books and clothing, which are donated by local traders to accompany the car. collision centers in this year’s program have been delivering the refurbished vehicles to their new owners during the last few days.
