Car Refinishes Clinch Major Contract

Akzo Nobel’s Car Refinishes Holland business has clinched a major relivery contract with Benelux courier Van Gend & Loos Euro Express.

The deal follows the takeover of Van Gend & Loos by Deutsche Post World Net and will involve the repainting of more than 2,000 vehicles.

“The Deutsche Post organization believes it is very important that their European design is consistent,” explained Car Refinishes Fleetowner Manager, Ad van Grootel.

“Therefore it has been decided that the Van Gend & Loos fleets in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg should be repainted in the new house style.”

Akzo Nobel was one of four companies invited to tender for the contract, being offered the deal after impressing with its Sikkens paint brand and the efficiency of its Car Refinishes operations in the Benelux area.

The total fleet of around 2,350 vehicles will be painted between December 2000 and December 2001 at 25 specially selected bodyshops.

“This contract is very important to underline the importance of Sikkens in the market,” added van Grootel. “It gives us recognition and lets the market know that we are the biggest in commercial vehicles.”
