Chemicals Group Receives Another Safety Honor

Akzo Nobel’s Chemicals business in the USA has again been recognized for its safe transportation of hazardous materials.

Both Akzo Nobel Chemicals Inc and the company’s Pulp and Paper Chemicals business, Eka Chemicals, were among the 56 recipients of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company’s Annual Product Stewardship Award.

The award recognizes shippers for their safe handling of hazardous materials by rail and this year represents the seventh year in a row that both Akzo Nobel Chemicals Inc and Eka Chemicals have been honored.

“These awards reflect our customers’ continued focus and commitment to the safe transportation of hazardous materials over the past seven years,” said George Duggan, vice-president of industrial product sales at BNSF.

“Their product stewardship ensures the safety of our employees, the public and the environment.”

The BNSF success comes just weeks after Akzo Nobel Chemicals Inc was presented with a similar safety award by the Norfolk Southern transport organization.
