Contract Marks Return to Croatia

A project involving two new product carriers has ended International Marine Coatings' wait for a newbuilding contract in Croatia.

Akzo Nobel’s International Marine Coatings business has returned to the Croatian newbuilding market after a lengthy absence.

The business unit is involved in the construction of two 23,400 ton product carriers at the country’s largest state-owned shipyard. It is 15 years since International was last awarded a newbuilding coatings contract in Croatia.

Intershield 300, Intersmooth 460 and Ecoflex SPC will protect the outside of the hull of the two vessels, while the cargo tanks will be coated with Interline 900.

“We put a lot of effort into liaison with the shipyard’s technical department in order to devise a coatings specification which met their approval,” explained Italian marine manager, Mario Malacrida.

He added that two additional newbuildings for the same shipyard are expected to be confirmed in the near future.
