Felling's Double Century

Akzo Nobel’s coatings facility in Felling, UK, is in the unique position of marking two special centenary celebrations.

Akzo Nobel’s coatings facility in Felling, UK, is in the unique position of marking two centenary celebrations.

Not only is the company’s Marine & Protective Coatings business celebrating 100 years at the site, but the Felling location has also given away more than GBP 100,000 in charitable donations since it joined a special fund back in 1998.

The fund was established by the Community Foundation, a nationwide organization which serves grass roots projects throughout the country, including Tyne & Wear region in the north east of England, where the Felling facility is located. Over the years, Felling has contributed to 221 different community groups, mainly in the Gateshead area.

“The majority of our employees live in the local area and take part in a great many social and charitable activities,” said Felling’s personnel manager, Jon Dixon. “We are very pleased that over the years we have been able to contribute to that same community.”

Some of the beneficiaries of the grants awarded from Akzo Nobel’s contribution have included a pre-school for 0 to 5-year-olds, an over 60s tea dance group and a community association.

As for the other centenary notched up by Felling—which also houses the HQ of Akzo Nobel’s Powder Coatings BU—employees are preparing for a number of special celebration events to mark M&PC’s 100th anniversary at the site.
