Intervet Completes Double Share Acquisition

Intervet, Akzo Nobel’s veterinarian business, has announced the acquisition of the remaining 30 per cent of the shares in Italian veterinary companies Farmaceutici Gellini S.p.A. and Nuova ICC S.p.A.

The majority shareholding in both Rome-based businesses was originally acquired by Intervet in April last year. When combined with Akzo Nobel’s existing Italian operations in the sector, this resulted in the company claiming the number two position in the Italian veterinary market.

The acquisition of Hoechst Roussel Vet later in 1999 subsequently catapulted Intervet to the number one spot.

“This agreement gives Intervet full control of these well-performing companies, which will allow us to bring the commercial and manufacturing activities further up to speed,” said Intervet general manager, Toon Wilderbeek.

Gellini and Nuova ICC develop, manufacture and market their own range of pharmaceutical animal health products which are scientifically and technologically geared towards the treatment of disease in both large and small animals, as well as towards improving livestock nutrition.

Their main product groups center around farm livestock, companion animals and horses, including feed and feed supplements.
