Japanese Surfactants Business Strengthened

Akzo Nobel Surface Chemistry is strengthening its position in fatty amine based surfactants in Japan.

Akzo Nobel’s Surface Chemistry business is strengthening its position in fatty amine based surfactants in Japan thanks to a new joint venture agreement with Lion Corporation of Japan.

Under the terms of the deal, Lion Akzo Company Ltd (LACO)—the joint venture established between Akzo Nobel and Lion in 1963—will assume the marketing and sales responsibilities for cationic and other fatty nitrogen-based surfactants in Japan.

Akzo Nobel will provide its products, technologies and marketing support in key industrial segments for cationic surfactants to LACO, with applications in agrochemical, asphalt road construction and industrial cleaning markets being targeted.

The range of cationic surfactant products available to the Japanese market from LACO will also be significantly increased under the new cooperative effort.

Akzo Nobel Surface Chemistry, headquartered in Stenungsund, Sweden, operates in 50 countries and employs 2,000 people.
