Money Does Grow On Trees

A recent addition to Akzo Nobel’s Art Foundation collection proves that money does grow on trees.

Hopes and Dreams is the title of a tree sculpture by Tony Matelli on which the leaves are made up entirely of Euros. The artist created the exhibit—which was purchased at a recent art fair in New York—in 1999, using only artificial materials.

“He hopes that it’s a sign that Europe will become one big community because we will all be using the same money,” explained the director of Akzo Nobel’s Art Foundation, Hester Alberdingk Thijm.

The exhibit is on display in the company’s reception area at the headquarters building in Arnhem, the Netherlands.
