New Research Laboratory Planned For India

Akzo Nobel’s Car Refinishes business unit is planning to build a new research and development laboratory in India.

Part of the company’s long-term strategy to maintain technological leadership, the lab will be based in Bangalore and will add to the existing R&D investments in the Netherlands, North America and South America.

The new facility, which is awaiting final approval, is expected to open in the second quarter of 2001 and will be located on the same site as the Car Refinishes India head office, with room for up to 60 chemists.

“Not only is India a developing market for Car Refinishes, but the country also offers excellent human resources,” said technical operations manager Asia, Frank van Ooijen.

“The new R&D lab will be used as part of the global research and development program, as well as for developing products for the Asia Pacific region.”

Apart from lab space, the two-storey building will also incorporate offices, a spraybooth, oven, workshop and storage rooms.
