Sikkens Launches Search For Ugliest Deck

Akzo Nobel’s Sikkens® coatings brand is offering homeowners in the United States the chance to scoop a dazzling USD 10,000 deck makeover by entering a nationwide competition to unearth America’s ugliest deck

Homeowners in the United States are being given the chance to scoop a dazzling USD 10,000 makeover by entering a nationwide competition to unearth America’s ugliest deck, which has been launched by Akzo Nobel’s Sikkens® brand.

The contest is challenging homeowners whose dilapidated decks are better suited to a bonfire than a barbecue to enter their woeful wooden eyesores and snap up the chance to win a complete deck overhaul.

“This is a fun and exciting opportunity for someone to win a fantastic prize which will totally transform their existing deck,” said Sikkens marketing manager Kelly Warren. “Sikkens will provide all the quality products and top-notch expertise required to complete a stunning makeover which will be the envy of the neighborhood.”

Added Steve Watson, home remodeling expert and host of TV show Monster House: “A deck should be the centerpiece for outdoor entertainment and a gathering place for when friends and family visit for a barbecue or get-together. Unless of course the deck is rotting, cracking or covered in mold!”

Entrants need to submit a photo of their deck along with a 75-100 word essay explaining why they think they have the ugliest deck in the United States.

Two prizes are on offer. The winner of the Grand Prize will receive a deck makeover worth up to USD 10,000, while a People’s Choice Prize worth up to USD 300 will be awarded to the entry which receives the largest number of online votes in an additional competition being run on the
deck website. Full details of the rules, how to vote and how to enter are also available on the site.

The importance of outdoor lifestyle to residents in the United States is highlighted by the fact that, according to the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association, homeowners spent more than USD 62 billion in 2004 on outdoor living products and remodeling services.
