About Center Court Work on the roof began in 2006 and was completed in 2009 The roof takes about ten minutes to close or open Aluminum flashing and supporting structures coated with Interpon powder coatings Dulux decorative paints used for the accompanying refurbishment The roof permits play in bad weather and poor light conditions Powder coatings such as Interpon D1036 have been designed especially for facilities like Wimbledon, where downtime for repainting is something you want to avoid. More about Interpon A perfect match The Wimbledon tennis tournament is arguably the most prestigious tennis event in the world. There’s just one problem. It’s held in England, so rain often used to stop play on the main show court. That was until a retractable roof was installed over the hallowed Center Court in 2009. The concertina-style, translucent folding roof spans the 77-meter width of the court and has a surface area of approximately 5,200m2. Tough and durable The aluminum flashing and supporting structures of the roof are coated with powder coatings supplied by our Interpon brand. The coating is tough and durable and should last up to 40 years. In addition, because powder coatings are applied without solvents, the impact on the environment is significantly reduced. Major project Installing the roof was part of a major project which also included extensive refurbishment and renovations to modernize the facilities and create a 21st century tennis facility. This involved the use of our Dulux decorative paints for the refurbishment of the entire Center Court facility.
