Climate and energy
Focus on our carbon footprint
AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals requires huge amounts of energy for its production processes. We recognize that the effects of climate change are likely to have a far reaching impact on the global environment, society and the economics of industrial activity. We have therefore, decided to shift from controlling the emissions from our operations to managing the strategic risks inherent in an over-dependence on fossil fuels and fossil-based raw materials throughout our product chains.
To address these concerns, we have drawn up a Carbon Policy. This lays out our guidelines on how we intend to minimize our carbon footprint by embracing new innovative products, state-of-the-art technologies and sustainable energy sourcing management.
Our manufacturing processes are part of complex value chains. To keep a finger on the pulse and monitor just where we stand, we measure and report our carbon footprint on a cradle-to-grave basis. We also measure the carbon impact of major downstream applications to help customers reduce their footprints.
While we already have a long track record of improving energy efficiency and adapting fuel mix to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and potential carbon costs, we want to go a step further. This involves managing carbon levels in the supply chain and during product application by our customers. This allows us to apply an impressive level of control across the entire business process.
