An important and wide-ranging role for an experienced product safety specialist with a real understanding of paints and coatings

Within this context, your mission in this role is to provide expert toxicological advice to our Technical and Technology project teams on product safety related issues. In doing so, you will lead projects to develop and introduce new capabilities and methodologies in this area.

Product Safety Leader Toxicology

The role and its responsibilities
 
You will work at our large site at Sassenheim, the Netherlands, where you will provide your product safety expertise to our RD&I team and the business. Thus you will:
- Carry out toxicology reviews of new raw materials in the NRMIP;
- Make sure existing raw materials are used in accordance with AkzoNobel product stewardship policies;
- Summarize and communicate toxicology/ecotoxicology information in an understandable form to expert and non-expert colleagues worldwide;
- Carry out exposure assessments and risk assessments for the industrial, professional and consumer use of paints and coatings for regulatory purposes. In doing so, you ensure all documents and processes are accurately filed and retrievable centrally.
In terms of project management you will:
- Lead in the evaluation of new exposure software modelling tools and methodologies and make recommendations on suitability;
- Assume responsibility for the development of methodologies and capability and standard operating procedures within the Toxicology & Risk Assessment group;
- Lead business support projects in the area of Product Safety.
You will also provide advice and guidance on more complex product safety topics to junior co-workers and review/supervise the technical content of their work as appropriate.

As such, this is a highly responsible role for an experienced specialist with a background in delivering product safety advice and risk assessments. Good communications, influencing and interpersonal skills are essential as you represent AkzoNobel in a variety of external groups and forums.

Job requirements/Candidate profile

Candidate profile 
To apply for this position you must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
- Graduate in a scientific discipline and a higher degree or equivalent in toxicology or a related discipline;
- At least five years of experience delivering product safety advice and toxicological/ecotoxicological risk assessments, combined with an excellent understanding of industrial, professional and consumer use of paints and coatings products;
- Good working knowledge of applicable legislation in various global markets, e.g. REACH, BPR, CLP;
- Wide experience in carrying out literature reviews of substances and raw materials and identifying relevant toxicological information and how to apply this information to business needs;
- Experience with exposure modelling software in addition to Microsoft Office packages;
- Accurate and efficient with project management and team leading skills;
- Good communication skills, including fluent written and verbal English.
