Balochistan earthquake support
Helping rebuild lives
On October 29, 2008 a devastating earthquake struck Ziarat which is at a distance of about 90 kilometers from Quetta. In the wake of this earthquake hundreds of survivors were left homeless and without adequate food supplies or medical supports. Our ICI Pakistan foundation, along with employees, contributed Rs 2 million to the relief effort to help with the reconstruction process. We also organized two medical camps at the worst hit areas of Kawas and Wam, to cater to the immediate medical needs of displaced residents, and ensire their suffering was not compounded by illness or further injury.
A few of our employees also took it upon themselves to travel all the way to Ziarat and take part in the reconstruction process personally. They liased with an NGO called the Balochistan Rural Support Program which was engaged in the construction of temporary shelters, and took part in the building work.
