a hospital normally is a place for a short stay. this is not the case for many children who stay in the local hospital in izmir, turkey. they often suffer from chronic illnesses like diabetes, liver failure, cancer, etc. and they have to undergo serious treatment. for the hospital staff it is not always easy to explain to the children what is going to happen and why pain is involved when giving injections etc. the dr.behçet uz hospital foundation has therefore developed a method using dolls, called the yaren babies. these ‘babies’ are made from stuffed cotton and have no faces. the children residing in a hospital are given the dolls and paint their faces and bodies, creating their own companions. when using the dolls, the hospital staff can explain the treatment in such a way that the children understand much better why pain is involved.when our colleagues from powder coatings in izmir heard about this very sympathetic initiative they decided to make a contribution and with support from the community program 500 yaren babies were bought. each and every employee at the site then volunteered to make a contribution and gave the babies an identity by sewing an akzonobel sticker on one of the legs. the white and blue dolls were turned in at the hr office whose members would, together with some volunteers, deliver them to the sick children at the local hospital.sanal limoncuoglu, one of the initiators and member of site’s social committee, explained that in view of the h

head of rd&i decorative paints business in india, sri lanka & bangladesh and of product development for trim & wood care for the south east and south asia business hello, i am sanatan hajra, head of rd&i for the decorative paints business in india, sri lanka & bangladesh and for the product development activities of the trim & wood care category for the south east and south asia business. let me tell you about my 17 years of experience in coatings innovation in india. i was born in calcutta and completed a masters degree in polymer technology at mumbai university in 1996 before joining ici in 1997 as a technical officer in hyderabad, where i worked on formulation development for water-based coatings. in 2000, i joined decorative paints' r & d department in mumbai in the same capacity before becoming development manager in 2003. since march 2014, i am heading the rd&i function in india, sri lanka and bangladesh, based out of mumbai. apart from this role, i am also leading the product development activities of the trim & wood care category for the south east and south asia business. our task is to develop innovative formulations with collective effort, knowledge & experience of the global rd&i community of akzonobel, so that we can deliver cost-effective products to the fast growing emerging market that comply with akzonobel´s exacting sustainability and product stewardship requirements. we have been consistently

the first annual global conference of the internal audit departments was an event which the almost 60 auditors, participating from 10 countries spread all over the world, will never forget! besides discovering talents, many of them did not realize they would have, they also made a real difference to the lives of 50 mentally disabled children and the staff of the val fleury nursery near the coatings operations in montataire. the val fleury association operates in the val d’oise region of france and is committed to support children aged 3-20 years with multiple disabilities. it was founded in 1968 and is fully dependent on gifts and sponsoring. inspired by a let's colour initiative in china, as well as several community team building activities in arnhem, the auditing team decided to make a team effort while contributing to a good cause in the community where their conference was planned to take place. they contacted the community program staff who provided some ideas and suggested to have our colleagues from decorative paints in montataire make a fitting proposal for their community. as one of them already was in touch with the val fleury nursery they decided to contact them to investigate their needs. besides painting, the organizers also expressed their wish to contribute something directly affecting the children. the major joint effort began with intensive and detailed preparation by our dutch and french colleagues. it was quite a challenge as they did not kno
