Celebrating the power of partnerships

CNH and Interpon powder coatings continue to break new ground

Cast your mind back to 1972. When everyone was digging David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and The Godfather ploughed its way into cinemas. It was also the year we first started working with CNH – now one of the world’s leading manufacturers of agriculture and construction equipment.

The long-running relationship first began after they started looking for a new paint system that had to be wear and friction resistant. Then in 1999, CNH moved from liquid to powder coatings, marking a switch to our Interpon products and a partnership that continues to this day.

Global capability

“We chose AkzoNobel because it has the global capability to develop the powder coatings we needed to adapt to new market demands, and the demands of our own production facility,” explains Frank Verhoye, who heads up Paint Central Manufacturing at CNH’s Zedelgem plant in Belgium.

CNH was actually one of the first companies to use powder coatings to protect its combine harvesters, balers and forage harvesters. The switch involved AkzoNobel helping them to adapt their existing liquid line to accommodate powder, while using the same floor space and oven.

They were also among the first customers to use Interpon’s low cure (Interpon ACE 2010 Low-E) powder coatings, helping them to reduce their energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Sustainability objectives

To meet evolving regulatory and environmental requirements, production was transitioned to a new generation of polyester products formulated without TGIC. This move ensured compliance with updated health and safety standards while supporting broader sustainability objectives.

Adds Martina Lösgen, Global Segment and Key Account Manager ACE and CV within AkzoNobel Powder Coatings: “We’re very much looking forward to working with CNH on developing new product solutions that will help to further reduce their carbon footprint and increase the long-life of the machinery and the future of its brands.”
