Share Buyback Overview

AkzoNobel has started to repurchase common shares up to a value of €2.5 billion as part of a total €6.5 billion being distributed to shareholders following the sale of the Specialty Chemicals business. The share buyback commenced on February 25, 2019 and is due to be completed by the end of 2019.

AkzoNobel completed a previously announced share repurchase program on April 21, 2017.

In 2017, AkzoNobel bought back 2,379,226 shares totaling €160 million at an average price of €67.25 per share, corresponding to 0.9 percent of its share capital. The total number of outstanding shares on September 30, 2017, following the deduction of 2,379,226 shares that were bought back and canceled, was 251,897,780. 

In 2008, AkzoNobel bought back 31,746,972 shares totaling €1,437 million at an average price of €45.26 per share, corresponding to 12.1 percent of its share capital. The total number of outstanding shares on December 31, 2008, following the deduction of 31,746,972 shares that were bought back and canceled, was 231,664,187.
