Akzo Nobel’s Eka Chemicals business has inaugurated two new plants in Brazil which have been constructed to supply chemicals to the country’s rapidly-growing pulp and paper industry.
in Eunápolis, Eka Bahia is a so-called Chemical Island at the new Veracel pulp mill, which was inaugurated in the presence of the Brazilian president, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, last week.
plant includes production units for sodium chlorate, chlorine dioxide, oxygen and a tank park for handling all chemicals from other sources.
new silica sol plant was also inaugurated this week at Santa Cruz in Rio de Janeiro. The facility will supply paper mills in the region with agents for retention and dewatering. Part of the silica production will be delivered to an adjacent manufacturer of catalysers for the petroleum industry.
total investment in both plants amounts to EUR 70 million.
