Company Awarded Safety Honor

A special award which recognizes companies for their safe transportation of hazardous materials has been presented to Akzo Nobel for the fifth successive year.

Akzo Nobel has been honored by an American railroad company for the fifth successive year.

The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) recently announced 45 recipients of its Annual Product Stewardship Award, which recognizes shippers for their safe transportation of hazardous material by rail.

The recipients were unveiled at a special ceremony staged at BNSF’s corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, when both Akzo Nobel Chemicals and the company’s Pulp & Paper Chemicals business, which trades under the name of Eka Chemicals, were named among the award-winners.

The honorwas presented to shippers who successfully transported a minimum of 500 loaded tank cars of hazardous materials during the 2001 calendar year and worked with their customers to ensure that no non-accident releases occurred during the entire transportation cycle.
