The fund was set up in 1994 to help finance special projects designed to encourage the education of young people in developing countries.
Supported by voluntary contributions from the company’s employees and a significant annual award from the Board of Management, new projects are selected every year.
The trio of recently announced schemes cover programs in China, Brazil and Indonesia, with the fund contributing a total of USD 96,000.
Most of the money (USD 53,000) is being used to help build two model schools in Shaanxi province in central China, while USD 27,000 is being given to a project to construct a pre-school in Maranhão, Brazil.
Meanwhile, children who live near a dumpsite in Makassar, Indonesia, will benefit from a USD 16,000 donation. This money will be used to help support ongoing development programs in the region.
