Recognition For Chemicals Site

Akzo Nobel’s Polymer Chemicals site in Los Reyes, Mexico, has received important environmental recognition following a comprehensive audit.

The site has received Clean Industry certification from the Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (PFOFEPA), which is part of the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT)—Mexico’s equivalent of the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States.

The certification is part of a voluntary program which demonstrates full compliance with environmental regulations, an effective environmental administration system and an adequate usage of natural resources. The Mexican authorities use the program to promote sustainable development for industry.

Los Reyes received the recognition after a comprehensive environmental audit was carried out at the site by an independent external firm authorized by PROFEPA.The certificate is valid for a period of two years, during which time the location will be exempt from inspection.

Receipt of the certificate—which is a clear signal to the local community of the company’s commitment to social responsibility—also means that the Clean Industry logo can be used on products, in brochures and at the site itself.

Miguel Martinez (Environmental Supervisor), Alejandro Saldana (Plant Manager) and Ricardo Castanedo (Site Manager) joined site personnel to accept the award from PROFEPA representatives who visited the plant to make the presentation.
